Job Description: Family Ministry Assistant Director
Supervisor: Family Ministry Director
Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to provide both leadership and support within the scope of Family Ministry at Stone Church of Willow Glen.
Mission Statement:
The Family Ministry Assistant Director at Stone Church works with the Director to create and facilitate a vibrant, inclusive community where children and families are invited to belong, be loved, and grow in faith. Through thoughtful, accessible, and developmentally-appropriate programs, this ministry supports children as they learn about faith-informed values, establish or deepen their connection with God, and discover their place in the life of the church and the broader community.
Relationships:
Works closely with the Family Ministry Director
Participates in weekly staff meetings
With the help of the Director, supports, recruits, and develops volunteer leaders involved in Family Ministry
Accountability:
Reports directly to the Family Ministry Director
Receives regular performance reviews from the Family Ministry Director and Personnel and Administration Committee, with input from the Christian Education Committee and the Pastor
Safe Church Practices:
This position requires full adherence to Stone Church’s safe church practices, including but not limited to:
Ensuring that two adults are present at all youth and children’s events and programs
Completion of safe church training
Maintenance of confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and proactive safety measures for all youth and children.
Serving as a Mandatory Reporter, as required by state law.
Desired Qualifications:
Active, progressive Christian faith
Professional experience in children’s ministry or comparable leadership roles
Experience working in a Christian setting preferred, but not required
Desired Skills and Attributes:
Demonstrated passion and experience with children and families
Ability and desire to treat all children, parents, and volunteers with care, dignity, and patience
Ability to work and collaborate with a diverse team of volunteers, including recruitment and development of new volunteers
Creativity, initiative, and energy
Organizational and time management skills
Computer and communications literacy, including use of e-mail, text messaging, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace
Strong communication skills, including ongoing engagement with children and parents, and weekly emails to families about the program
Work Schedule and Salary:
Part-Time: Approximately 10-15 hours per week
On-Site Availability: Sunday mornings 8:30 am – 11:30 am, One weekday to meet with the staff/prep (timing flexible, to be arranged with supervisor)
Salary and benefits to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications
Specific Duties
Ministry Leadership–
Work with Director and other Family Ministry Stakeholders to plan and prepare consistent and reliable Sunday programming for children in grades Kinder-5th
Facilitate weekly Sunday programming for children in grades Kinder-5th with the support of existing and new volunteers
Establish trust and strong relationships with children, families, volunteers, and the Congregation
Foster a culture of inclusion, curiosity, and play for children who attend our programs, their parents, and the community as a whole
Provide support for Family Ministry Events as needed (timing flexible, to be arranged with supervisor)
Administrative Responsibilities–
Maintain updated records for child participants (attendance, allergies, emergency contacts, etc.)
Ensure children’s ministry spaces are organized and welcoming
Participate in and uphold all required safe church trainings, policies, and procedures
